Who are SportsViz?

History

SportsViz was formed as a business way back in 2012 as a follow-on to several years of academic research funding that was challenged to bring leading software engineering solutions to sports analysis challenges. Our first major client was the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) with whom we still work and for which we have developed, deployed and supported a whole suite of highly innovative software tools designed and built to their exacting specifications.

WRU Stats Dashboard - Extensive in game and post match statistical analysis and visualisation tool.

WRU Team Room - Mac kiosk application providing players with secure, role-based access to their files while giving coaches and analysts engagement and usage data.

WRU Clipper - iOS based application for capturing and tagging video footage.

WRU Heatmap Generator - Match analysis tool that generates player and team activity heat maps from imported event data.

In recent years we have added another long-term strategic partnership with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) resulting in the creation of the “Nodiant Platform” that now spans across all of their operations as the governing body for football across Wales and a leading provider of coach education at the highest level. Our software has been used at several Rugby World Cup tournaments, Lions tours and at the Football World Cup in 2022.

Our mission is to develop and deliver professional software solutions that are highly innovative, easy to use and much more cost effective than what has previously been supplied to the market, whilst also aiming to cover both 'able bodied' and 'disabled' aspects in sport analysis.

Adam Morris profile picture

Mr Adam Morris
MEng (Hon)

Consultant Engineer

Master of Engineering (MEng) in Engineering Mathematics with First Class Honours from the University of Bristol. Adam specialises in the principles of mathematics and data modelling and applying them to real-world situations. Currently undertaking postgraduate research at Bristol as a PhD candidate, he is developing autonomous robotic swarm systems, bringing together theories of swarm intelligence with the challenges of physical systems.

Adam works as an advisor alongside SportsViz to provide deep insight on AI/machine learning technologies and mathematical principles that can be applied to sports analysis. He is currently implementing the ability of artificial intelligence models to automatically capture player spatio-temporal data through raw match footage. Furthermore, he has shown how to effectively analyse this data to provide actionable insights, stemming from his expertise in collective dynamics and emergent behaviours.
